Anyway :/ I was 11 , 10 years ago and it scared me then. Used to play it co-op on my 2400 baud modem. Or was that Doom 2? I don't even remember anymore.

Yeah, I played it on my state of the art 25mhz i486 - My mum wasn't too happy about me chainsawwing people and blowing them to smithereens with rockets, I was just a kid... but what the hell, games are graphically much more greusome now... and doom never did me any harm.

Yes, I remember we didn't have a computer, so I would go over to my aunts house as often as possible and play it there. I then made it a priority to play Doom in all of its incarnations. Doom blew me away, Wolfenstein3d blew me away, everything id ever made has blown me away, and I'm sure Doom3 will be the same

its the first game i played on a modem with my neighboor across the street.
486 DX with 4 MB of RAM ... at that time 1MB of ram was about 75$ CAN (50$US).

10 years ago I was 5 years old, and though I didn't play Doom, I started playing Wolfenstein 3d at that time. Doom came later, when I was 7 or so.

I remember being scared of the dogs in Wolfenstein 3d (seriously, being five, that game scared the crap out of me. I liked watching my Dad play more than playing myself. I remember one time he was like "why don't you play" and he left the room, I was too scared of bad guys to leave the room that he had left me in).

No wonder I'm so messed up

I played the Doom demo and also Spear of Destiny. I didn't own a pc at that time (I was in university; no money), so I played on a roommate's computer. I was really hooked; I played 'till I was nauseating dizzy.

Quick question, is it possible to get the full 3 chapters of the original Doom for free or is it just the first chapter that was free?

I ran through it the other day, wanted to go through the other 2 chapters as i never completed them or even played them before .

I got shareware doom when i was 14 and i couldn't for the life of me get a copy of the full game for another 3 years. Everyday i wondered what the plasma rifle was like or the BFG.

i remember woflenstein and doom1 pretty well, and i also remember the knock-offs, like nightmare 3d and others, all those games scared me soo bad, at several points in the games i had to put them down or else i'd have cardiac problems

Me too. Ahh, memories.

My favourite Wolfenstein level was the one with a corridor and two doors on either side and a door at the end. You got the key from one of the two rooms on the side, then went through the locked door and it was the end of the level.

I think it was Episode 2, level 7.

Rise of the Triads
Skytek? (the william shatner one, my 486DX66 couldn't take the cpu load)
Duke 3D / Plutonium Pack - this was the last time i was able to make levels, after this (Quake etc) it got too complex (though I was only 14/15 at the time).

Did anyone play the Alien Doom and Simpsons mods, they were great too. I've always been interested in getting back into level making, I done an NVQ in AutoCAD r14 a few years back, so I may give it a whizz and see what i can come up with.
