Hi, I recently aquired a Dell System. Its specs are:
Intel Dual Core 6600 2.4ghz
2GB Ram
nVidia 7950GTX2
All inside a shiny Dell Case with all the wee security things to stop you from tampering with it.
Now am wondering if it is possible to hax all the components out of it and stick it all into a new Case, plus wipe the gay Dell Bios and stick on a different one....

Basically I want to get rid of anything Dell from this PC. Has anyone done this before and is it possible to De-Dellify a Dell system :P

What's keeping you from being able to open the case? Dell cases should be openable (my old one can) for repairs. So you should be able to swap cases.

If you do, I recommend you also swap the PSU. Their PSU's are the bare minimum and will eventually lead to heating issues.

I don't know about the Bios. Good luck on that.

It's possible they will have a dell specific motherboard and/or power supply. Not easy to swap that stuff out if it is non-standard parts and the case mounts for those may not work with other parts. Just have to find out after you get it open. ;)

Processor, Graphics card, hard drives... all that stuff should be standard in there.

Dell, as well as other pre-built systems, use a lot of proprietary hardware. What does this mean? It's harder to get replacement parts or move it to a new case. What Asus basicaly said. :P

yup you can scrap pretty much everything except the motherboard and psu to rebuild it.

So basically if I buy a new Motherboard (one that my cpu is compatible with) and a new PSU then I should be pretty much set to go with setting up a new system in a new case?

Yes. But don't forget the CPU in the mobo. If that's proprietary, then you only have about 30-40% of the PC cost retrievable anyway.

also it depends if the damn cpu isnt cemented to the heatsink which ive heard most dell pcs do. make sure you get the correct ram socket for the new motherboard.

Thanks guys, if I decide to go ahead with it then I will update here to let u know how it went.
