just got a seagate 120gb hdd. right now i have a maxtor 80gb SATA drive. when i boot up its not detected, ive tried to manually detect it through BIOS but nothing. i would think i would have to set it up as primary slave.. but i dont know because my master drive is SATA (btw my mobo is an abit is7-g) ive also put the jumper as cable detected and as master. help would be.... appreciated

tried setting them both to cable select?

Are both drives SATA or is the new one IDE?

yeah i tried both to cable select

the old drive is SATA and the new drive is IDE

Are you using an 80-conductor cable for the IDE?

Also does your motherboard support both IDE and SATA at the same time?

You will probably need to set the second drive as a master, not a slave. Master and slave only apply to ATA drives on the same cable. If you're using a drive on a cable by itself, it should always be set as a master.

Doesn't matter if there are other drives already in the system, as long as they are on other cables or connected via a different method such as SATA.

Drives aren't supposed to work if they are a slave and the only device on a cable.

i had this problem but with only one sata drive- so it may not be the solution, but you need to get the SATA driver for your make of hd from the web, or it may have come on a floppy or cd with the hd, and load up the correct driver, otherwise windows won't recognise it/them. For me, it wasn't the mobo not recognising, but windows.
btw i thought this was pretty stupid (what i had to do) cos what if i hadn't got a floppy drive (like i nearly didn't) and what if i didnt have access to the internet with another computer? I would have been screwed- i recieved not driver disk with my hd.
Anyway, hope that helps

dude...

THE seagate IDE drive is not detected, i have no problem with SATA drives. i want it to recognize the IDE while my old sata is in..

gosh DERNIT so FRUSTRATING ive tried everything, master on both, cable select, w/e. im gonna poop on it.

Does your mobo detect the IDE drive without the SATA drive plugged in? Granted, it won't boot since there's no OS on the IDE drive, but it'll be worth confirming that the IDE drive and the IDE interface in your mobo both work.

Try it with one IDE drive at a time, if both are detected seperataly come back here screamig.

**** **** **** **** ****ing Piece Of ****ing **** God Damn ****ing Gin Ass Hdd.

well i got another one and its still pulling this shit, im flipping now so someone help.. both are set as master.

I'm gonna say it's a motherboard problem... but before we say that, have you tried a different IDE cable?

let me get this straight, your problem is that is DOSENT find your HDD in BIOS right? a assume you find this out when trying to install your OS? if these are the facts then try installing the SATA drivers thats on the floppy disk that comes with your mobo...

ive only said like what... FIVE times that its not a problem with the SATA drive ITS THE IDE DRIVE. and yes ive tried about 3 different cables
