Just ordered a new HD TV that will arrive Thursday. I've also ordered a 360 that should get here on Tuesday.

I need some advice on which HDMI cable to buy, and how much to spend. I've seen some cables going for over 200 quid and some for as little as 5.

I appreciate all the help.

Is the signal that travels over the cable completely digital? The reason I ask is because if that's the case then buying the cheapest HDMI cable would technically do as the quality of the cable wouldn't affect the quality of the signal travelling over (like with analog) unless it caused the loss of data packets being sent or didn't have sufficient bandwidth. I've never really looked at HDMI cables so I don't know if there are any different types. The only reason I can see to pay more would be for extra lenght.

As long as an HDMI cable is able to get the signal from point a to point b, it's no different from any other HDMI cable. That includes the cheap 3$ and the massively overpriced $90 ones. It's important to keep in mind that as cable length increases beyond about 4 meters, the signal will begin to degrade depending on the thickness. This is true for any cable. HDMI cables also have different versions, but this is not a big deal as long as you pick up the most recent 1.3b.

Yeah like Sedako said, just remember that the shorter the cable, the higher the signal quality. ;)
