lol, who's in?

I'm just basically fed up of hearing people go on that they think HDR is just overbright and pointless blah blah blah!

I think HDR and the new technologies Valve are currently putting together for DOD Source and games a like are just awesome.

They're really showing us what the engine can do, and good luck to 'em!

I'm with you. The technology is very impressive and I appreciate it.

HDR is something I don't care about. I'd rather they work on something I cared about, like more convincing facials (they were damned good in HL2 though) and AI.

Well they are really. The fisherman in Lost Coast is high textured and stuff. More to come, have faith :smoking:

EDIT: and plus they've been working on the AI, Aftermath is supposed to have massively improved Alyx AI... I'm guessing they will have improved Combine AI as well. :D

hdr is some nice feature, but i personly HATE this ****in sun effect - everytime you looking on the ground an then up again its like your standig 10m before the sun.
thats just WRONG and i hate the way some dev ppl. trying to simulate SIDE effects of the human eye which are balanced in miliseconds by the brain in real life. Ingame it takes ~1sec ... this 1sec can be your death :/

but overall its very nice ... i love the reflection.
and even the sun effect is somekind beautyfull ... but not for real playing.

i wonder what the future holds for us ...

I appreciate HDR, just not Valve's. My computer crashes playing hdr maps all of the time, even when HDR is off. So far I haven't seen Valve put HDR to good use in thier maps either.

Lego Star Wars has HDR....no joke. It looks nice.
My young brothers are playing that right now. Its kinda cool. :p

the only time i have seen hdr is when runing that mana mod i dont know why but it worked and it almost brought a tear to my eye almost let me join the club

I love HDR, Source's HDR looks best now. Lets see if Valve can keep up with Unreal Engine 3.0 etc. Both engines have there ups but Source seems to be slightly falling behind. I think Valve is working on some crazy stuff for source, just cant wait to see it.

I can't run it :|
Can't run HDR or can't run LC? Cause LC has realy realy high texture and model detail which realy eats away performance more than HDR.

Doesn't work too well for me, but i'll join the club!

Now for someone to create a site for it! :D

I like HDR. I'm in! :D

Project Gotham Racing 3 on the 360 is beautiful. Drive out of a tunnel and the light really hits you. Motion blur rocks too!

Make a motion blur appeciation thread! :p

I ran it in Lost Coast and stuff and bleh I didn't really notice the difference all too much except kind of in the church and the big hit to my performance. Overall I felt that they could have simulated it just as well with 'fake' things but a lot of people don't like that. Would rather have more AI and other gameplay improvements.

Indeed! I just got the game today and it's stunning on my HDTV. Gorgeous game.

I'm fed up with PC devs hyping HDR, if you guys didn't know, there was a XB1 game that did HDR, Forza Motorsports, and yes, I'm 100% sure it was HDR.
So it's not THAT high-tech!
I'm more impressed with say motion-blur.:)

Upgrade from HAVOC to HavocFX

full support for physics card
dynamic fluid
procedual texturing
realistic grass
full shadows
paralax mapping in the cobbled streets
realistic trees
destructable terrain
and on
and on
and on

I love HDR! But, there is much room for improvements on making it seem more realistic.

Im in! everytime i see some nice hdr i have to adjust my pants, that justifies this club in my eyes.

I'll join the HDR appreciation club, even though I played a tech demo (not on the scope of LC, still good though)

I'm a Paralax Map/Fluid Dynamics/Speedtree fan myself

I do have to say, imo, PGR3 has the best used and most realistic HDR.:)

I personally don't like HDR. As I've said on here several times, walking outside and being blinded doesn't turn everything WHITE. If I stared at the sun, I see it perfectly, although it will definately hurt and give me a clear purple spot in my vision for 10 minutes. It's not like when you go outside, your eyes are wide open and seeing white everywhere..... you close your eyelids most of the way, and it slightly hurts until they adjust.

I was watching Star Wars 3 over the weekend, and during that time I was thinking about how the HDR they use in the graphics seems so perfect. I don't know how the graphics engine they used works, so it might not be real HDR, but it looks absolutely stunning.... and I was thinking about THATS how HDR should look. So if you can, take a look at that movie, particularly the outside sequences on Coruscant, where it seems like the sun is the only light source, and you'll see what I mean.

My thought exactly

but still a great effect, i hope they improve it more

I could not care less about HDR. IMO it's a worthless feature that adds nothing to gameplay and does nothing at all to convince me I'm not playing a video game. Even if HDR was a perfect mimick of real life, even though nothing could be further from the truth, I'd still be uninterested. Give me five year old graphics with some unique and fun gameplay over this feature anyday.

i am pretty sure i'd appreciate HDR more if my computer could run it without affecting performance....but i guess until such time, i'll just appreciate the fact that the technology is there and its just a matter of time for me to get a new PC :)

Please, please, please don't go on about stuff you don't fully understand. And that includes the 'OMG HDR simulates cameras, not the human eye' fetish some people seem to have around here

Parrallax maps ftw! source engine support's it apparently :O

The only thing I don't understand are brain dead little children like yourself. The concept of high dynamic range lighting isn't complicated. Exactly what aspect of this technology don't I understand?

I believe that HDR does look damn good but I wish Valve would make the AI so much better. It says on the box.

ADVANCED AI: Friends and foes assess threats, master tricky terrain and fashion weapons from what is at hand

That's awfully nice but what about actually make them act realisticly..
