No it will not. This would cause over 2gigs to be-redownloaded.
It will be implemented into the Source SDK for mod users though.

Wow, I assumed that it'd be added, but be optional... I believe you, but just wondering... Where did you find this information?

wrong more like 8 gigs that would requires us to redownload the whole game to have hdr and it would take anothor years wait for it to come out so y bother
 
there is that 3rd party mod of hl2 that gives the game a "fake" HDR-ish look. I don't remember where I got it though.
 
Valve said something about small sections of the game implementing it, probably the coast section, but not for the entire game because some sections just didn't look as good without them being designed with HDR in mind. They said it would be optional too.

well i do remember a gabe interview where he said explicity- "NO! The downlaod would be too HUGE!" or words to that effect.
People should read other posts before asking these questions- that way their question would most likely be answered before having to make a thread....
 
From what I know, HDR needs to be placed in the maps themselves rather than just a filter. Incorporating HDR in to HL2 fully would mean downloading all the maps again. We might see some aspects such as the blooming, but not the fully-fledged kind as in Lost Coast.
 
Far Cry managed to do it without a massive download, but i'm pretty sure the guys at Crytek had already built most of the HDR content into the game when it was shipped. At least i think.

Still, it would be awesome for the rest of HL2 to have HDR.
 
Gabe said no, they will not incorporate it into HL2 - for the same reason the others have mentioned on this thread - too large of a download. But he did keep his promised that it will be with DoD:S and with future vAlve releases....

Crytek uses a different variety of HDR, as Valve discussed in that bit-tech report.

[No, Farcry wasn't designed for HDR. We added it to the patch 1.1 once nv40 supported 16 bit floating point texture operations. No special content for HDR was added to the game, but support by our pipeline. It casts lights but it's post-processing effects so you are dealing with transformed into screen coordinates image in the pixel shader, in other words texture, and HDR effect(real or fake)is the bloom. It's just metter of terms.]

Finally will next gen cryengine focus on actually using HDR rendering to its full extent?

Cuz... there is tat HDR8Bloom mod but it is bugged now with the latest updates...

I am talking about fake hdr.... there was this HDr8Bloom mod (made by http://www.neotokyohq.com) that was 8megs... but... now it is bugged cuz of latest updates.... is there any mod out there to give fake hdr to Hl2?

Half-Life 2 supports HDR, but it isn't implemented in any singleplayer levels in HL2.

That includes a bunch of high res stuff which I do not want... i just want bloom... besides I dont have 1.5 GB RAM...


Has anyone though about recreating or fixing the original bloom mod for HL2? Plz

sure your not mistaking bloom.....and if it was in the leak as you say it is then why is it not in hl2?
 
To implement HDR in HL2 EVERY SINGLE LEVEL would have to edited to incorperate this. This would mean a gigantic download and Valve paying people to edit all the levels and get nothing back out of it. If they went back and redid their games with every graphical improvment they had they would still be remaking HL1 to have HL2 graphics and EP1 would never have seen the light of day. Just download a bloom mod and be happy you have it.
