Does anyone have any word on if and when they will be adding/updating maps to include HDR in CS:S?

Hopefully not. At the moment if someone throws a flashbang when I have HDR enabled fully (On my Dx.9 card) I get reduced to about 5FPS while the computer tries to add whatever effects to it :\

I hope so... If you don't want HDR turn it off.

I don't see why they wouldn't start doing so. HDR FTW!

HDR is over rated. here's my impersonation of HDR: "bright, dark, bright, dark, bright, dark"

I must be missing something because all I see with HDR is an intelligent light bloom.

well it IS super realistic lightning (so supposed to be)

You are.

Bumpmaps become more prominent and realistic, water reflections become much more realistic, if you run into a room, it's black for a while (not pitch black but black), shadows are more realistic, and colors become more vivid and realistic.

I know what you mean though. You don't actually notice it untill you compare the two side by side, or stop playing with it.

I think HDR would be cool if it was tweaked so that you have to be in the dark for a longer period of time before it becomes bright outside. you know? Instead of just passing through a dark area and all of sudden come out and its bright.

Ah yeah I agree with you now :).

But I have HDR off....

is it even available to click on in CS:S yet?, yeah i know that there are no maps with it yet.

Well yeah you can change it to different settings (Mine's off). But only with Direct.X. 9

The HDR update murdered my com, even when I turn it off the larger maps like dust are still unplayable (15-20fps) I used to get around 60 with the same settings. Now I can't play anything larger than fy_iceworld.

My HDR is on (highest) and I only have DX7 hardware. :upstare:

I have a Geforce 4200 Ti wich only supports DX8, and i can't use HDR. How did you make it work?

This cannot be, from the fact that the only "HDR-Supported" cards are 6XXX and 7XXX series...

BTW, i already told that if you do not have an HDR-Compatible card, you need to TURN IT OFF.
It may cause FPS problems and such.

i think you mean the only cards that support open EXR HDR are those series. valves implementation can work on radeon xx00 cards as well.

at 800x600 with HDR on I get like 15-30fps in a 20 man server. runs smooth if im going for a romp on my own though. :)
i have a 9600xt

I didn't notice a difference? I checked settings to see if it was even on, and it's on highest... I still don't see any damn difference.
Maybe HDR isn't for Canadians. :p
*Goes to play CS:S to try to notice some HDR effects*

I see some of ya' dont seems to get the real idea behind the HDR.

The HDR-Tech is composed of two Hardware component.
Untill recently, the HDR wasnt FULLY supported by cards, 'till the 6XXX series.

I disagree HitchHiker. If there is a method to make HDR work on lets say the X800 series, then yes the X800 can support HDR. It may not support all the ways for HDR, but it does support it. And have you notied that those who don't support ATI's, are based for Nvidia? Hell Splinter Cell 3 at launch only had like 1.1 and 3.0. No 1.4,2.0,2.0b. That was a major hit on ATI cards.

The main diffrence in the shaders is not 2.0b and 3.0 as those are extremely similar it's the Open EXR.

yea thats what i was thinking, it weird you just get in a dark area for 2 seconds and you get out and eveything is overbright

About the X800 series - im not sure, but i think it does not support HDR.
As i recall REAL HDR need SM3.0.

Any DX9 card will be able to use HDR (except maybe the 5x00 series?) 9500 and up should be able to do it.

HDR IS NOT IN ANY STEAM GAME OTHER THAN DOD:S RIGHT NOW, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO FIND IT IN CS.

THANKS.

HDR is map specific, not game specific. A correct way to say it would be "HDR is in no other maps but the ones in DOD:S right now"

I don't see why HDR shouldnt be put in as a option. I enjoy it and would like to see it in other places beside Day of Defeat.

welll it SHOULD be an option for those of us who either dislike it or our cards cant handle it

Im telling ya' - HDR is not supported with cards that are not 6XXX/7XXX...
If you have a reliable source to see that it works on 9500+, i would be glad.

Im well aware of that. :]

... and HDR does work on any DX9 card, my 9600xt can do it fine. I'll fraps a video in a minute.

[edit] it's coming, few more minutes and the movie will be pumped out, then i'll upload it. it's about 2m 30s i think.

IT FEATURES, FRAPS DROPPING ME TO 5 FPS
AMAZING SOUND TRACK
HDR
HOOKERS AND BLACKJACK :]

It works on 9600xt just fine, goes dark in the right places and overexposes in the right places and at the right times. Maybe your confusing how its supposed to work marginally better in newer cards or something.

X800 does support HDR, the thing works like a dream on Day Of Defeat

do u actually play the game like that? then u are really sick man :flame:

HitchHiker, all the current HDR are Nvidia(besides DOD:S). Hell Splinter Cell 3 only supported like 1.1 and 3.0 at launch.

Valve is for ATI, and spent some time working with diffrent ways, optimized the hell out of it(more than Farcry's or Sc3's). They tried 3 HDR methods to get it so optimized. So optimized that AA can be enabled.

I mean that vid was just so....glitchy, if you play like that, you may suffer vision problems :dozey:
