Headcrab Mask v1.

Before I begin, I understand there are a few threads about costumes and such...the one that gave progress pictures I could not find again so I decided to make a new thread.

Now as you can guess I will be creating a few headcrab masks for halloween, as I live near the halloween capital of the world, this will be a great costume to walk around main street.

I refuse to use paper mache as it is terrible and filled with fail and disease. I've come up with an idea based of Zombieturtle's propcrab using a hard wire for the bones and couch foam for the muscle. I haven't come up with the skin yet. If I recall someone gave and Idea to another creator about latex?!?

So now I'm asking as many ideas as you all can bring forth.

I'd suggest you use rough leather for the skin. Less sheen and more realism.
And if you really want to go all out I'd also suggest the zombie chest, which would be made like a bullet-proof vest and just worn. Also make sure the eye holes aren't too obvious.

But headcrabs are slimy and shiny... At least in HL2 they are.

What's wrong with papier-mache? You just need a good form to stick it over - when I made masks, I'd use cardboard, paper, and lots of staples/glue to make a sort of a frame onto which I could put strips of wet, glue-smeared newspaper. You can let that dry and then make a layer out of crumbled tissue paper for an interesting texture or continue to use strips if you're going for a smooth look.

I'm thinking using any fabric for skin colour work. Then you paint it and cover it with some PVA glue to make the surface harden and become smooth.

you use unpatterned toilet paper and latex for skin, leather is too thick, expensive, and difficult to handle.

Depends how much you want to spend I'd say. Although I've never properly thought about it, I'd suggest papier mache for the legs with maybe a thin velvet. I disagree with the leather, and would go with zombieturtle with the toilet paper. I can provide some blood for the "mouth" and claws...
