Headphones + VGA + 360!

Ok i just got the VGA cable for the 360. I have it connected everything works. Problem im having is getting the sound to work with my USB headphones. My USB headphones are connected to my computer. My 360 Sound is connected to my computers Motherboard Line in. Black Plug. What should i do to set it so my sound comes out of the headphones? Thank You.

forgive me if im wrong, but doesnt line in require a program to have it work properly.

Ok first things you check are obvious things once again.

Computer Must be on for your sound card to receive power - unless you have one of those sound systems for your PC that has its own LCD display, control panel or whatever. ( the sound cards that are inside the Computer case are probably always going to have to have the PC turned on to use em )

Be sure that you plugged the line-out cord from your 360 to the line-in on your Sound card.
For noobs:
The sound goes out from the 360 and goes in to your sound card so it can send the signal to your headphones. Hence, line out, line in.

-Also, be sure that you didn't plug it into your on-board sound input if you have upgraded your sound card. In that case, make sure you have it pluged into that new cards input instead.


If the line cord is new, then thats probably not the problem.

Asuming you installed the USB headphones correctly and they work with other Audio Sources such as PC games, some other things it might be:


Go into your control panel / audio settings and make sure your line-in input is enabled and adjusted properly.

As a last resort, if the Line-in option isn't working, you can likely get away with using the Mic input - although it is a different Ohm resistance. Since they are just headphones, and don't require alot of juice, if you adjust the volume just right, that will work too, but the quality will be less than using line in. Then you are going to want to adjust your Mic input settings in your audio control panel as well.

I only have a onboard soundcard. My headphones work will all pc games apps. I didnt need to install them. (they didnt come with drivers ether) The line in is the black plug in right?

Line in is generally pink... unless you have suround sound and then black is used for the rear speakers...

Just dont use the microphone port. It is red/pink. Look for 'Line In'.

So what color is Line In? I mean i think it should be the blue one. Going to try it all tonight.

Whats the problem dude? You can't easily get acess to behind your PC?

Well every sound card i've seen is color coded and has an image and/or text telling you what one is what. So it should say "Line-In"

My soundcard is external and the jacks are all gold plated, but it clearly says what they do. My outboard card uses RCA style jacks for line-in but if yours is onboard then you wont have RCA style. ( which if necessary can be converted with an appropriate adapter wire )


RCA jacks are the big audio connectors used by home stereo stereo system.


Its also got an optical in/out, which is awesome, when its time to buy a new reciever, I'll get one that supports optical.

Alright this is how i got it working. My headphones are usb but they can detach and become the regular plugs. What i did was connect the 360 plug into the blue and my headphones into the green. Work 100%. I guess i cant use the USB options but that doesnt matter its real easy to switch.
