Guys, what is the best value to put in the command line with the -heapsize command? I have 256mb rdram, but my game stutters whenever it loads a new model, sound, or even a new area of the map. I heard someone in a server tell me to try -heapsize 96, but hwen i tried, cs crashed to the desktop without an error message. But i haven't tried it again after the update last night. In ym console when I first load up cs:source, it says "Heap - 63.98 megs". What value do you guys use to eliminate loading new files during play?

lol, oh well, guess my comp sux...P4 1.5ghz, 256mb rdram, Radeon 9600XT. Funny thing is, I can get a constant 35-60 fps on medium quality with 1024x768, and 4xAA 8xAF. I can bump it up to high quality, but thats when it really starts to stutter. Oh well, I can deal.

Just remember, heapsize is in kilobytes. So, 96MB = 98304KB.

You tried to run CS:S with a heap size of less than 100KB.

lol where does it say that? I tried putting in 256mb in it but then the game wouldn't even load :D What's the equation between MB & KB? I've got a gig to use so 512MB would be nice as a heapsize :)

Also, my DX level is 8.1 according to the video options menu. And I have 9.0 installed & I'm using a dx9 card. Do I have to force it into -dxlevel 90?

Edit: Also, would any of these give me any performance boosts fps-wise or similar?

I ran CS:S with "-heapsize 256" and when I pulled the console down it said the heap was only 0.25mb. So, I multiplied 256 by 1024 (because 1mb = 1024kb), put that number in, and when I started it up again it said 256.00mb.

Alright. I got it to work. Can't say it helped much anyway ;( I guess the best solution is getting a new computer... 1.8Ghz is getting slow :)
