Hearts of Iron

Wow, I just got this game on Monday, and I've been thoroughly addicted all week. I played pretty much for 11 hours straight yesterday.

It's a WWII strategy game, a fairly small genre. Basically you can choose to be any country, and then you control the military, technology, diplomacy, every little detail. The learning curve is very steep and will probably turn away a lot of people. But you can play shorter campaigns or battles to get the hang of things. Once you get that stuff then it's time to start the full war, from 1836 until 1947 or whenever you get wiped out.

Right now I'm playing through as germany. It's taken me about 3 days of solid playing to get to summer of '39. Give it a try.

Are you playing Hearts Of Iron or Hearts Of Iron II? I'm thinking of getting Hearts of Iron 2, along with Silent Hunter 3 and Brothers In Arms. I also want Act Of War.

I got Hearts of Iron 1 for $6.00 used and I like it, but one problem I have is the world market. Am I not supposed to be able to buy anything, or is that a bug?

I'm playing hearts of iron II. I just got to mid summer of 1940 and working on invading the UK, but the damn Navy keeps slaughtering me.

Yeah HOI2 is great. HOI is oold. I've played it so much, but got bored (like with hoi) after some time. Multiplayer is great too. In my last game as Germany I had conquered Britain(well, the Allies were holding one island with 40 divs), Ireland, Spain, Scandinavia+Finland,Soviet Union surrendered, Persia, Afghanistan, Egypt+other coast to the half way of Africa, India, Iraq, Vichy france, Nationalist China, Siam, and Nepal, Tibet and those pesky countries next to Mongolia. Also Romania, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. It was the Third Reich from the Atlantic to the Pacific. I'm sure I'm forgetting some countries but imagine grey all over.

I'm into the end of 1940 now. I have all of the European parts of UK except for that stubburn island in the north, france, netherlands, luxemburg, belgium. checkoslovakia, denmarks, norway, finland. Had to go back a few times to get past the UK navy though
