"Let me just tell you all that the dev team has finished work on the demo ... it's in the bag," said Ninja Theory co-founder Mike Ball in a forum post. "So now it's a case of Sony deciding when they feel is the best time to release it to PlayStation Network."

Well, the EU store got The Darkness demo. I'm assuming the US will get it today too. Though I don;t know if they'd release two big demos in one week. They may save it for next week when the EU store is supposed to get it.

Was playing for a while last night and I now can safely say that I desperately want this title. The combat at first did seem too much like a button masher, but after 3 or 4 playthroughs, I got a much better feel for it and really began to appreciate the sublteties of it and I actually now like it much better than the combat found in, for instance, God of War. Blocking is better than in any game like this too, and the combos and stances really give you a control over the whole fight that I really enjoy and that you have to plot out a bit if you want to pull off some sweet damage and not take any yourself. The counters are just awesome as well and I hope we see more in the retail release.

Its funny that this is the demo they release though, with only the tiniest sliver of gameplay . From recent videos we know there is a ton more varied and exciting gameplay included in this title, so this I guess just give players the feel for the main character and some of what she is capable of, since she will be who you play as for the most part after all.

Even the 8 minutes or so that it lasts, the demo holds my interest very well because of all the moves in Nariko's arsenal. I would really like to perfect at least some portion of my technique before release so that I can jump right in and begin whooping ass no matter what level its starts on in the retail version. Great great stuff. I only hope the R&C demo is longer. :E

You are right my friend, the combat system is so different to everything I've played before, people were complaining how they can't block, well you can! the block system is very unique, you have to change stances depending on the color of the incoming hit, animations are very fluid and graphics are just gorgeous, very impressed with this demo, too bad is very short, anyway this is game is a buy for me...

P.D: Parrys are the best! :D

I'll check this out tonight :)

I'm a little concerned by some player reports i've read on another forum. The concensus seems to be, don't play Sigma before playing Heavenly Sword, you'll be disappointed. From the vids i've seen they look different enough for this not to be a problem - Sigma just happens to be a whole lot quicker.

I actually played the Sigma demo before this and I personally think it is too fast. This demo definitely seems fast, but more realistically so. I could barely follow what I was doing in Sigma and I personally think it is a way of cutting corners for the developers, but that sounds harsh and everyone loves it anyway, so take that however you like. I officially like everything about this demo better than everything about the Sigma demo.

HS plays different to Sigma and to GoW, so it shouldn't be compared to those 2 (although I know comparisons are going to be inevitable).
It's good developers created a very different feel and play style for this game, you just can't pick up the controller and expect it to react like Sigma or GoW, and that is a good thing...

That was a fun demo. I've only played through twice so far, but I was thoroughly impressed. Not only is it drop-dead gorgeous (those waterfalls made my eyes melt), but it's very fun and the combat actually required a bit of work. I personally hate Sigma's combat style, though I like GoW's. This added so much, with the different stances and lack of a singular block button, that it felt very fresh. I'll definitely get this when it comes out.

The demo was great, the game is very impressive. While I can't say I like the combat better than God of War's right now, that may change once I get more used to it. The game definitely surpassed my expectations.

However one the subject of Sigma, I found the game very disappointing, especially after hearing such great things. It just wasn't as fun to play as God of War or now Heavenly Sword.

MUST see video. Probably one the most impressive facial animations I've ever seen, too bad about the low quality video.

Another hefty amount of new (yes! NEW!) videos can be found here.

Just BEWARE, there's some spoilers in the videos.

Just saw ^that^ on gamevideos.com today actually and yes, it is absolutely amazing. I don't think I have seen such good facial animations in a game before, not to mention the fact that they were in perfect sync with the voice-acting which just so happened to be probably the best I have heard in any game ever. If these cutscenes are anything to go by, this game is going to be a work of art. IGN thinks so too apparently.

I played the demo last night at my friend's house. REALLLY short. Well Game Informer has the videos of what happens next (courtesy of Loke), and I've uploaded them onto YouTube! for simpler viewing.
