Gamers With Jobs is reporting that those "reliable sources" that occasionally live up to the "reliable" tag have told them that the source code for Hellgate London has been stolen over the Internet. They learned by way of Bill Roper that Flagship Studios has heard these rumors too, but have not gotten an official confirmation or denial from them of the theft. According to their report, they've heard the source code for Flagships upcoming first-person RPG is being sold by the thief on his personal website.

for a MMO this couldnt possibly be worse ..how soon do you think they'll come up with cheats/trainers now that they have the source code?

Yikes! If this is true then this is bad news indeed. I remember how bad it was when HL2's code was stolen...:hmph:

Different certainly for an MMO, but still, I can't imagine it was ALL taken, right? :(

And that guy must be crazy if he thinks he can actually profit from it right away?!

it's not an mmo though is it?

I thought it was single player mostly, but had the option to create parties with friends and such and go into instanced dungeons.

I'm sure they'll have some sort of anti cheat protection though.

well...hl2 recovered from this.
This will force them to implement really strong security and anti cheat code within the game then.......not a bad thing in that respect.

Hellgate london IS NOT AN MMO. However it is set up similar to Guild Wars. Guild Wars also btw is only considered an MMO by ncsoft. It is considered a Compeitive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game by the actual developers.
It's basically Diablo but in futuristic terms and set in London and a first person view + third person view(for sword combat).

It is playable online with a battle.net type service however.

ArenaNet made an MMO and that was started by people who left Blizzard.(Cheif architect behind battle.net(forgot his name designed starcraft and wc3 netcodes) and creator of the MPQ format(Mike O' Brien(Brian?)) are the big ones.).

Oh noes, surely this wouldn't be possible after it happened to Valve. You'd think they'd have countermeasures for every possible scenario.

Lol, Source code stolen, again, it happens all the time now. >> I wish DNF's code would get stolen.

out of the many times source code, development kits, alpha builds and so on, has something 'bad' happened ?

since when is hellgate an mmo too ?

What can be made by humans, can be broken by humans...

Nothing is ever fully safe.

It wasn't too bad for VALVE because a) It was only an early beta build and b) They have STEAM which adds extra security against hacks and allows them to ban accounts who are suspected of possessing the Beta.

It depends on the age of the source code obviously.

allows them to ban accounts who are suspected of possessing the Beta.

I've never heard of that.

.Either way, I hope this turns out to be false, so the developers can just get on with their game and get it out soon!
