nVidia GeForce FX 6800 Ultra 256MB AGP8X w/TVO&DVI

nVidia GeForce FX 6800 GT 256MB AGP8X w/TVO&DVI

ATI Radeon X800 PRO 256MB DDR3 8x AGP W/ TV-OUT & DVI

im kinda leaning twords the ati but if yall could give me some info
about these cards that would be nice couse i really dont know much about video cards. thanks

I don't know too much about this subject, but I think the best video card would be the nVidia GeForce FX 6800 Ultra 256MB AGP8X w/TVO&DVI.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Benchmarks of those cards over a bunch of games
Source Test Benchmarks

They are all excellent video cards. Between the X800 Pro and the 6800 GT, get whatever is avaible. The 6800 GT is marginally faster than the X800 Pro.

The 6800 Ultra is the next step up from those two (in terms of price and performance). The consensus seems to be that the ATI X800XT PE is a better card than the 6800 Ultra but is harder to find.

ya when i was configureing up a cpu they said that there ati x800 was out of stock and it would be till the end of oct. before they got nemore in and i dont want to wait. and the nvidia 6800 ultra costs about 150$ more than the x800 so i might just get the gt couse i sure theyll both have better cards in a few years and the gt would hold me over till then plus i comes with a free doom3 :). and thanks comradebadger! for moveing this post

o ya and another ? what company would you go with when getting a pc custom built. i cant build 1 my self couse i dont know how so thats out of the ? and alienware costs to much but that ALX sure does look nice. thanks again

the 6800 GT is possibly the best card for the price. It is an exellent card, and it cna be overlcocked, easily, to perform at the same level as the 6800 Ultra.

Also, building your own system is quite easy, we can help you out if you have no clue what you're doing. I suggest you build your own as it is a lot cheaper and computer manufacturers often put limits in BIOS and such. :)

Don't go with Alienware, they make very nice cmputers but they will really rip you off. I don't really know of any good custom builder, because pretty much it's best to build one yourself, if you know someone like a friend who could help you you'll save money. Well I'll tell you this, don't buy a Dell.

i wasnt buying a dell or a alienware. lol and now that im thinking of this what would be a good mother borad to go with i was looking at a

Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM Serial ATA 150 8MB Cache

The 6800Ultra is a bit better than the GT but not worth the extra $$ in my opinion.
The X800 Pro and 6800 GT are awesome for their price.
A SATA drive will work with any board that has the SATA ports.
I'd recommend an Athlon 64 system. ;)

Make sure you have the power for the 6800 though

btw,

That's nice, and I would get either the 6800 Ultra or GT if you can't wait for an X800XT PE. But what about power supply, what are you getting for a power supply? This is where you gotta be careful a lot of people end up buying cheap low quality psu's that aren't enough for their system. Thermaltake and Antec make awesome power supplies, Enermax is also good.

heh i just learned something i didnt know power supply played such a big role. for the time being i was going to use the 1 that comes with the case witch is 420w. would i need more if so ill upgrade. but i dont have the comp yet.

420 watts is good for a psu, but now we have to find out the most important thing: who makes the case. Tell me the name, send a link if you can, I'll check it out. If not, I have a few nice ones to recommend. Mine was only $30 and the psu is pretty nice, look at my sig, click the link there's a picture of it.
