Hey guys,

I'm just about to put up and build a new system. Now, I don't know, from your opinions what would you do? What would be more important? Building an Athlon 64 system without PCI-E (because no motherboards support socket 939 w/PCI-E), or go with an Intel P4 3.6Ghz HT with PCI-E?

Which would benefit the most for future games like HL 3, Unreal Engine 3.0, etc.? Would it be PCI-E or Athlon 64 (64-bit era)? Obviouslly, like I said there are no mobo's that support Socket 939 w/PCI-E, nor do we know when they'll actually come out. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

hl3 and unreal engine 3.0 games etc. are so far off, right now its impossible to say what system will handle them the best, but likely by then, the best video cards will be PCI-E only(just a theory), so you'll want PCI-E.

shouldn't be too much longer till we start seeing some athlon boards with pci-e and dual pci-e. but again its hard to judge because those games are a long ways off, so much hardware will come out between now and then. :/

currently though the amd64 procs are better for gaming. if you're going to hold onto your rig for a long long time, maybe id wait for amd64 with pci-e.

Get a 64 bit socket 939 rig now.. then around next summer just buy a new mobo and vid card with nforce 4 and use your old processor :) that is what i am going to do.

Nforce 4 with SLI is due in january... that motherboard will support SLI, socket 939 and SATA2
