I received my new 8800, CPU & mobo today. The CPU and mobo fit in my case perfectly but the 8800 won't fit in because of the slots at the back of my PC case. The card would fit in fine inside longways, but the metal slots on my actual case at the back won't let the dual slot card through.

I've tried cutting out the middle bar to let it through, but then I found out that the slot isn't even high enough.

Here is a picture of my dilemma:

So I've gathered that I need a new case to accommodate this damn card unless there's someone who can offer me any suggestions >_<

I'm looking towards these cases at the moment, is anyone able to tell if they'd be able to fit in a dual-slot card such as an 8800GTS?

Looking at the picture, those metal tabs on the graphics card go on the inside of the case, not the outside.

Looks like to me it needs some "convincing" from the good 'ol screwdriver! ;) If you really want a new case though (and I don't think vid cards are going to get smaller) then I would go with the Antec. I heard many reviews saying the fans keep everything very cold. Some guy on the flamehaus forums OC'd his dual core CPU from 2.4GHZ to 3.0GHZ with a stock cooler and the Antec 900 case. Without OC'ing it ran 14C and with OC'ing it ran at 24C! So who needs water cooling lol! Has tons of space as well. I went to a CompUSA yesterday (wanna see the parts first hand) and the case is very light even if it's steel. Sure there was nothing inside it but some cases are heavy with nothing in it. The plexi glass on the side feels very durable and half of it is a wire mesh screen. Get this case IMO. Now they say the case is noisy but my dad has the same fans on his computer and I can't even tell it's running. The fan on top is huge though and reminds me of a giant industrial fan. Won't align in the slot then.

Dude... Thank you so much. I assumed it was like my previous card. I had to bend the bottom bit slightly but it's actually inside the case now. Now would you like one big hug or perhaps a series of smaller hugs?

Not much on hugs. How about some hawt buttsechs?

Just joking. I am straight. Please do not try to contact me for hawt buttsechs. Thank you.

The Antec 900 is really sweet, it's what I'm using.

Lol had to do that with my x800XL cause small-form factor computers are the size of a shoebox. :P My dad just pulled out a screwdriver and started pulling on it and I was like "WTF DAD!?! You're going to make the holes not align, etc..." Amazingly it worked. Not going to fit in a "DX10" card so I need a new case which leads to a new computer lol. Glad it solved you're problem though.

This was my primary concern with getting an 8800gtx, the card to too damned long! I'm setting for an 8800gts or something else in the future (I'm not upgrading the comp for atleast a couple more years).

i'm getting my evga 8800 GTS 640 tomorrow so I'll let you know the details. i took some before shots in Ep1 and HL2 and will be taking some after shots with my 8800 tomorrow after work.

You should be happy with the results. Counter-Strike: Source's video stress test had an average FPS of 233 With everything on max (well, the antialiasing was on 8x as opposed to 16x). Everything runs so smoothly now!

When I first saw the idling temperature for it (about 65) I was like D: but apparently that's normal so it's alright. I was a bit concerned about airflow there since the size of the card sorta splits the case's air into 2 heh. But my frontal intake fan should be blowing air to it.

[EDIT] Oh yeah, remember to take of the plastic film covering on the card itself. I only just remembered and had to open up my PC and take it off heh. Glad it hadn't melted D:

installing drivers right now for the evga 8800GTS 640MB. step up from the ATI x600 i had.

man! Big improvment! I've already got it OC'd to 609MHz core clock and 825MHz memory!

That is an insane step up for GPU model. Probably more so than when I went from a GF2 to a 9800Pro. Can you handle it? hehe

Like my MX4000 (GF2 ultra-ultra equivalent) to 6800 was huge, I basically went from playing a version of Halo played in Paint to Better than or equal to Xbox version. I'm just debating the jump from this 6800 to that card you got now. I think it may be worth it if the price came down from the $349 cheapest I can find now (640mb version onlyyyy!). I'd jump for $319 or lower...also assuming it can fit in my case (measurement indicate an exact fit or so).

Since you got that 8800 powerhouse, Lets know the score if you ever do 3DMark06.

I had a similar jump, huntingbear, since I was on an X800. Maybe I'll download & run 3DMark 06 :P

Yeah so I've just run 3DMark06. Here are my scores:

3DMark score: 8760
SM 2.0 score: 4163
SM 3.0 score: 4041
CPU score: 1919
