Help - aligning to disp. map, can brushes clip, other questions

I'm starting out with Hammer; this is my first venture into modifications.

I was wondering if functions like these existed.

1) When I create a prop, like a car (prop_static) on an outdoor, hilly-map, I want it to align to the disp. map's contour. Does this have to be done manually? What about a stack of physics "barrels"? Is there a quick way to stack these items on top of one another perfectly?

2) Overlays are obviously the way to go for rugs, blood-smears, propaganda, etc. So what good are decals?

3) NPC models have so many different animations, but there are no "corpse" poses. How do you make those?

4) When building a small shack, for example, I've found that using the hollow/carve feature is very difficult. So, you have to make the thing out of brushes. So how do you attach the walls together? Must brushes clip to be considered "attached", or just touch one another?

5) I assume that objects that don't appear in the map are incorrectly placed or touching other models. So if models can't clip, then how do you make pigeons sit on a car, or headcrabs chill out on a desk?

These are some questions I have that are obviously too amateur for the SDK Documentation and other tutorials and I think some others may also be asking the same.

Any help is appreciated, of course!

1) It's a manual task. A prop_physics will drop and settle (assuming "start asleep" isn't checked)

2) Not much use at all now

3) No idea

4) Just touching

5) Models can clip. Some models seem to have issues.

Thanks for the reply.

Confirmed what I found over the last 5 hours editing.
