hi i made a map with hammer this is my first map. how do i get it from the .map or the .rmf version to a .bsp? i think i need a bsp compiler but where can i find one? thanks.

Hammer eh?

Either you broke into valves office and stole a copy of the map editor or you're getting sonfused with HL 1's map editor. If you are confused, check out this: http://www.planethalflife.com/eddi/ a great compiler for HL1.

i don't know, it says hammer in the upper left hand corner

im pretty sure ur talkin about HL1, so. i can help.(ive biult maps befor)
did u get the ZHLT tools from HERE ?
if so did u put all the .exe's in the right spot? why dont u just take screen shots of the program....and talk to me later.

here's where i learned how to make maps...counter-map

yeah i set up all that zoners tools and whatnot i just need to know how to save my map as a bsp :-D

take some screens of the tools option screen...then i can help a bit more...

i know exactly what ur problem is...
the spot on the third pic where its say "place compiled maps in this dir..."
that should be changed to "...sierra\dod\maps" ive never built maps for dod but im pretty sure that the rmf dir should be open at all times...

hope this helps.

i dont think that matters at all, i need to know how to save a map as a BSP file, it saves it as .RMF and .MAP right now, what would a folder have to do with it? plus it says to make a folder called ma source to save the maps in, int his tutorial i am using. i have done all the hard stuff can someone just tell me how to change my map into a bsp so i can test it out?

what do i do AFTER i make the map? how do i save it as a bsp? this should be the easiest step i already learned all the hard shit

when u compile the map it will save it automaticly in the map folder.

so once ur done makin ur map hit either the run map button or just hit F9 then if u havent saved yet it will do so. then when u 'run map' it will compile. the dir u chose to put the compiled maps in, depends if it will run or even compile. if the dir is set to "sierra\dod\maps" and u set the compile to run map in dod after compile is complete then just open the sierra\dod\maps folder and there it will be ur .bsp for ur map...

i try that and it says it cant open valve/program file.wad

wtf!?

i also had this problem if ur makinga map for dod then u cant have any other wad files other then dod, dont ask why its the only way i got it to work...

so go to ur tools options and then to texture wads and take off all except dod.wad

oh yeah also i am trying to make regular maps for HL not dod, so what texture files c an i use for that? im just using halflife.wad now because all sorts of erros kept popping up so i wanted to make it one etxture file, now i know the problem so what other textures can i use with just regular half life maps?

one problem may occur u might have to build ur map over again , since the original was built with those other wads. changing them wont work either....it might happen it might not...

the wad file is in the halflife\valve directory. it'll say halflife on it.

and same for counter strike. it'll be in the sierra\halflife\cstrike dir

hey when ur done send me the .map file and maybe u and me can come up with stuffme and my friend are building maps right now...

You should download Nemesis' batch compiler and Zoner's compile tools.

send me your email address wbcheater and ill send you the rmf files (i used halflife.wad) my whole problem was i didnt know you could only use one wad file!

if i send the bsp to a friend, how can they run it in half life?

you can either send him the map files and have him compile it himself or you can take all the files from ur map (.bsp,.txt,ect.)and zip it to make it smaller and email it to him, then have him extract them to the right folders. or u start a server and have him download it through halflife. try doing it with me...email adderess is [email protected]

You can use multiple wad files. For normal half-life, you can use halflife.wad, liquids.wad, and xeno.wad. (There's obviously more complex stuff you are able to do, but I'll leave it out because it's not important right now for you).

yes i know, for halflife maps u can use just about any wad in the valve directory...

.rmf and .map are just two types of saving format

.bsp is the actuall map, either the .rmf or .map's gemetry, lighting, AI etc etc gets compiled into the .bsp (playable format)

The 1st comment wasent specifically aimed at you.

The .wads can either be in the valve directory, or the mod directorys I.E Natural-Selection.

is there a way i can just send a .bsp to a friend and he can play it?

Yeah, E-Mail, MSN, IRC, Trillian... :)

yea dux sorry i just was a little pissed that day, my comp(halflife,CS) always has errors when i try to play my, it says "cant open Example.wad" and then exits the prog. any help any one have that happen to? thanks

It means that the folder its looking in for that .wad doesent contain the wad. If you are running a mod place it in the mod folder or the valve folder. :)

oh yea ok now it makes sense thanks. (not sarcastic in any way)(i sware)(really)

no i mean when i send the bsp to them how do they play the map? the only way i know of is sending them the rmf and having them open it through worldcraft but is there a way to send them the bsp and then how would they open it?

They place the .bsp in their maps folder start the game, go into the console and type map mapname

kinda same problem

When i complie my map the complie box pops up and then it doesnt advance i left it on over ngith im not sure wat my problem is.

and Do u need to complie it to playi it?.

when i saved it .map isntead of just a name i did [name].bsp and it says its a bsp file would that work??
