I need a domain name for a website I'm putting together. Here are some things you should know about the website.

It's a web design portfolio.
Designs cover any fathomable range, from game clan websites to e-commerce stores.

The domain should be witty, random, catchy, but not profane.
It should be unique.
It should be simple (1-4 words).
It should be memorable.
The more it alludes to works of literature, the better.

The winner will have their domain name chosen and receive a secret graphic on the website of their choice.

Designsandshit.com
EDIT: no seriously...I came up with "taboo designs" for my own graphic design stuff..just to watermark my work..etc. "Taboo Designs" is already in use but I doubt people would care since I'm so small, so I'd say:pick other design sites and combine the names at random...

I was looking to avoid having "designs" or "custom" or references to what the website actually is. I just need something totally obscure, like "massiveblack.com" (an art portfolio site).

room101.com appears to be taken. Can you use other domain types?

.net, .org, .biz, and .us will probably be available.

Mostly classical stuff... Greek/Nordic/Roman mythos and tragedies, old poetry (a good line from a poem would surely be the best bet here), Shakespeare, and newer sci-fi books (Ender's Game).

tearsinrain.com is great, but taken.

Mine is already the most awesome : dandoes.net

+ alliteration
+ my name
+ i use the tld as part of the name (dan does .NET, meaning microsoft's .NET framework)

Sorry, you just aren't going to get any better than that :\

There ya go, some Odyssey referencing.

Although learnedastronomer was the best choice here, I've settled with arkainesvalor.com

Ennui, as an honorary winner, I'm allowing you to select one object which will be featured as a silhouette in the background of my current design.

www.arkainesvalor.com

How about you just put your first and last name together instead of using some incredibly generic *word*-design? :P

You spelled Valour wrong, you confounded American you.

Is this your own portfolio? would be greatly interested in seeing it.

Haha hey that's how Diablo spells it! >:3

Yes, it's my own portfolio (sadly there are only two real pieces, and frankly, neither of them are really finished nor beautified).

So hurry up and upload them, then do more.

Bad name, I couldnt read it as I had no idea when one word ended and the other began.

What is an arkaine? How could anyone remember it. How could they spell it to put it in a url if theyve only heard it spoken.

^ What he said. It isn't enough that the title is interesting or a literary allusion. It has to be catchy, memorable, and contextual. What does valour have to do with web design? What does "arkaines" mean? Will anyone be able to remember how to spell it?

The site itself looks nice though.

In retrospect, the name arkainesvalor is a terrible travesty to spell to someone. It doesn't bother me that the name doesn't relate to design at all- I really want to separate myself from the carbonbasedliquidgraphicssoftdesign crap.

I may switch to learnedastronomer.com after all, unless I come up with a better name. It would create an interesting theme, I suspect.

Arkaine isn't an English word- but it sounds like "arcane" (which is a word, meaning requiring mystical or ancient knowledge).

LearnedAstronomer is a combination of two English words, and it sounds pretty cool.

The all time greatest url of all time:

www.isleofmanmeat.com

btw - Personal portfolio url's don't really have to be easily remembered, it is enough to direct people there with a contact link in an email or via links from other sites, so any name goes as users won't usually have to type it in manually.

Where did the Royal Dissenters image come from?
