Help for a beginner?

Hello,

I ve been trying to learn how to use Hammer and have been following some of the tutorials from various sites. Ive been doing ok but every time I try and compile something goes wrong.

I assume its somthing to do with the way I have set it all up but then again ive got everything set to the default settings. Either way, I know far too little to see where I'm going wrong and I cant find an answer using the search function on these forums.

As a last resort I'm asking you guys if you could look through my compile log and see why it wont let me compile and run what I have built.

I see nothing wrong with it.

Yet, you don't say what the problem is.
 
It just says the the programme has encountered a problem and needs to close. Yet it always runs HL2, HL2DM, and CS:S all perfectly fine. I even run things like garry's mod. but when ever I compile it compiles it for about 10 seconds then says the programme needs to close, send error report etc...

I can compile but not run the programme ok afterwards but if I try both it crashes.

Like I said, I can run HL2 fine, just not this..
 
Copy and paste your entire map into a new file, save it under a different name, compile it and it should work.

I did, it crashes still. I have created 4 different box rooms following the tutorials from scratch each time. I have saved them with different names and they all do the same thing when I launch them. Is there a different way to launch them, not through hammer?
 
Yes when you compile your map uncheck the box that says "run map after compile" or whatever. Then after it compiles open up hl2 (or whatever you are mapping for) and push the ~ key to open the console. In the console just type in "map yourmapname" and it should load it. If you can't get into the console you will have to enable it under options > keyboard > advanced settings. Hope that helps ya.
 
Maybe your game doesnt like the paramters

-dev -console -allowdebug -game

Doing the above should fix that.
