Getting a MUCH needed new rig; I tried to search for complete systems, but there's hardly any shipping to where I live and there are no gaming rigs sold here, so I've to opt for building one, but I'm new to building PCs, so I don't know a lot.

Just wanted to ask if these components would lead to any problems, what to do after putting everything together (installing OS, etc).

CPU - INTEL Core2 Quad Q6600
GPU - ASUS EN8800GTS (GeForce 880GTS) 320MB GDDR3
Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-N650SLI-DS4 (Nvidia nForce 650i SLI) DDR2
Memory - CORSAIR 1GB (PC2-6400) 800MHz DDR2-800 x 2
PSU - ANTEC EarthWatts (EA 500) 500W ATX Power Supply
Case - ANTEC 900
HDD - Hitachi (HGST) T7K500 500GB (16MB) SATA-II
OS - MICROSOFT Windows VISTA (Home Premium) OEM
Sound Card - CREATIVE SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer (7.1ch/24-bit)

Compability issues, overheating, not enough power, etc.

Also if there are better choices tell me - I'm not looking for ultra performance but just a rig that will do me well and can last for a while. Help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the only thing i can see is that the psu seems a bit low. I think you might need more than 500w.

Ok. Any recommendation for a better one?

I'm going to try to overclock the system as well; would I need a better cooling system for it?

For overclocking you will be needing a much different mainboard. Quads only overclock well on p35 chipset mainboards. Good models are the Asus P5K or the Gigabyte GA-p35-ds3r.

500W should be enough, but I would get something better just to be safe. Corsair HX620 or the Thermaltake Toughpower 750W should be good.

I would not get that soundcard, but either the X-fi xtreme music or the x-fi xtreme gamer fatal1ty pro. The card you chose doesn't actually have the true x-fi chip.

I don't know how far you are planning to push the cpu with overclocking, but decent cooling is required to get far over 3ghz. Look at the Tuniq Tower 120 or the Thermalright ultra-120 Extreme.

I'm only going to overclock slightly; in that case would an Asus P5N and current cooling systems be acceptable?

No. It's critical that you get a p35 mainboard for quads to get it running stably. The stock cooler should allow some overclocking, but only up to 3ghz or something. And it would be noisy too.

Ok. I doubt retailers stock the Tuniq Tower 120 over here, so would simpler heatsinks be able to cool the CPU sufficiently for overclocking (and hopefully reduce the noise)?

Also, can the cooling systems in the case support GPU overclocking? Thanks for your help.

Depends on what cooler you get. Scythe has some good coolers, they're widely available.

And the case will feed plenty of fresh air to the graphics card for some overclocking. I heard that this is not so much the case if you use dual 8800 cards. But you can't anyway.

The p5k board is great, i just recently installed it. Only problem is the stupid DE connector is in the dumbest spot you can imagine. If your goign SATA though no worries

Man, thanks. Getting this then

CPU - INTEL Core2 Quad Q6600
GPU - ASUS EN8800GTS (GeForce 880GTS) 320MB GDDR3
Motherboard - ASUS P5K
Memory - CORSAIR 1GB (PC2-6400) 800MHz DDR2-800 x 2
PSU - ANTEC TruePower Trio 650W ATX Power Supply
Case - ANTEC 900
HDD - Hitachi (HGST) T7K500 500GB (16MB) SATA-II
OS - MICROSOFT Windows VISTA (Home Premium) OEM
Sound Card - CREATIVE SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Music (7.1ch/24-bit)
plus a heatsink

Thanks for all your help.

Trying to avoid the upgrade later on, don't really like Vista myself.

How much would the P5K cost, by the way?
