Help Half life 2 not working!

the other day i got half life 2 and when i started it i went to the options and changed the display output (i think) to 1280x720 and then when i accepted the changes the screen went black and started flashing "out of range" 75 mhz or something similar and i cant access the game to change the settings so im stuffed coz theres noway to play the game coz whenever i try i get this stupid message! someone please help because i really want to play the game!

asking for specs wont help his problem at all.
this is a very common problem and can easily be fixed.
