help half life 2 wont start at all

hello ant thanks in advance for those who help me.

I loaded HL@ with no problem (and then uninstalled it and re installed it sevral tiems ) and whenihit any of the HL@ icons nothing happnes(occasionaly it will pop up with Halc life 2 is now loading then nothing happens.

Are you using Steam at all? Is the game up to date?

yea I got the game of the year edition it came with stream and hl2 and hl2deathmatch and hl source, and counter strike source

Well You have to install Them both then activate steam, go on to the 'My Games' tab and then enter the activation code. It should work after that.

I have excactly the same problem. Have done everything I'm supposed to do. I get the "Preparing to launch Half-Life 2" then it looks like the "cancel" button is getting clicked. Then nothing.

BTW, I've runned the Steam Diagnostic Tool and reports tells me that everything is ok. I have also turned off the firewall

Seems fine, but I don't know how the game handles the Core2Duo processors.

i had start up problems as well sep once i used the activation code on steam i was smooth sailing so if ya game does not work after all that then u might want to return it and get another.

no that shouldn't and wouldn't be the problem, as long as you have a working ( not to mention legal ) cd code it should all work fine. getting a new copy wouldn't help
