help... high resolution problem

i have a 17' monitor... and i wanted to see how hl2 (demo) looks in a higher resolution... but when i put hl2 (demo) at: 1280x926 ... i get a black screen telling me this: Over Range... and i realised that that resolution isn't supported by the monitor..
does anyone know how to change hl2 (demo) resolution to 800x600 thru console? or config files?! please help me ;(
ps: don't tell me to reinstall the demo.. because i already reinstalled it 3 times.. and i get the same problem...

There is something here about how to change resolutions using the "launch options". They forget to say it's right-click Half-Life 2, then "properties", then "launch options".

I guess you'd just enter:

-w 800 -h 600

should have tried 1280x768 or 1280x960. not 926
