I have recently reinstalled Half Life 2 which went fine.

On attempting to load the game on the loading screen I get the following application error.

The instruction at "0x241f94f7" referenced memory at "0x0d8af41c". The memory could not be "read".

Does anyone have an idea what is causing this and how it might be fixed.

I have not had issues playing the game before.

Cheers

Steve

- Update your DirectX & Graphic Card drivers (very important)
- Verify your GCF files (right click on HL2, select options)

Thanks. I will update the drivers.

Right clicking on the HL2 Icon doesn't provide me with "options" in the drop down. Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Updating the drivers hasn't fixed it unfortunately. My PC is causing me no end of problems right now (not just HL2 problems), so I might think about upgrading or doing a recover.

I updated my Nvidia driver to the latest one last night. Problem still happening...

Solution that worked for me...

Hey everyone,

This is my first post here. I only took the time to register because I had the same problem as everyone else in this thread (with HL2 working fine, but then after replacing the hard drive and reinstalling it, the game won't launch). I found a solution that works and wanted to share it with you all:

  1. Set your monitor display resolution to the lowest setting (mine is 800 x 600).
  2. Try to launch HL2 again. This time, it *should* load.
  3. Once in HL2, in the video options, set the resolution higher—to 1280 x 1024.
  4. Exit HL2 and set your monitor display resolution back up again (in my case, I set it back to 1280 x 1024).
*From this point on, HL2 should launch normally*

As stupid as this sounds, I tried it, and it worked for me! I'm very relieved, because I was starting to think I'd never get the game working again.

It may not work for everyone, but it won't hurt to give it a try, because it's a simple solution that doesn't require changing your graphics driver, or adding/removing any other software. If it doesn't work for you, it's easily and painlessly reversible. You don't even have to reboot.

For those it helps, enjoy...

got this one alot... at steampowered.com/support they say you can do one of 2 things...

1: go- find your steam file under programfiles and delete the clientregistry.blob ( or something like that ) then exit steam and restart, this will force steam to re-update fixing any courupt files ( or something like that ).

2nd: if step one fails then you have a much worse problem and will most likely need to re-install your OS.

Well you're lucky because HL2 wont even install on my machine, i can install it through Steam though but if i try to install it from the disk then the installation gets stuck which is annoying :hmph:

steam update

hey, i was just wondering if any of you guys know whats going on. A recent steam update has made all of my steam games, not work. Whenever i try to boot up a game it says Hl2.Application error "0x241f94f7" referenced memory at "0x0d8af41c". The memory could not be "read". I have updated drivers and made steam update by deleteing the reg. i dont know what else to try, as reinstallation dosn't work.

cheers , sam.
