Hi,
Ive just upgraded to my MSI K8N Neo Platinum, and it's been nothing but trouble. The onboard sound always has static behind it. Now, my video card will not run in AGP 8x without freezing, after this ATI VPU Recovery kicks in and saves it. this occurs every few minutes with 8x on. When i enable AGP 4x, every runs flawlessly. Please help...I'm going to RMA this board for something else if I cant fix this sh!t.

Thanks

AFAIK, (Although it may have been a very old article) i read that x8 isn't that much better than 4x.. you shouldn't see much difference anyway. But dont take my word for it, if i was you, send that mobo back...

As oldagerocker said, you will see almost no performance difference at all. If the only problem with it is that it has POS sound, I'd just get a audigy card by creative. You may later on run into problems with it that all could possibly be due to 4x, so I would also send the mobo back.

On a side note, DISABLE VPU RECOVER. It causes problems.

You know i have the same problem, except worse, my board only supports 8x, its not the board dude, its the video card. When i had the 9800 pro, i had to run 0x, cuz in niether board i owned i could enable 8x. i thought it was the board until i got this comp and had the card in there. once i put the x800 xt pe in there, 8x ran perfectly.

My MSI motherboard runs like crap too. Go to their website and download the latest chipset drivers www.msicomputer.com . That will allow you to run at 8xAGP. Although my computer still sucks even after doing that. So send back that piece of shit MSI and get an Asus. You will thank me.

This might not be related to the problems, but if the VPU recovery keeps kicking in frequently make sure you have AGP Fast Writes disabled. They aren't faster and they cause a lot of trouble on many machines. ATI's drivers enable it by default.

I don't know, I like my MSI Neo board. ;)
I would update the drivers and maybe do a bios flash. It's very easy with MSI's Live Update/Monitor 3 software.
