HELP I need to chage game resolution out of the game!

Hey everyone,

I got myself into a bit of a pickle. I was upping the resolution on HL2 and everything was proceeding fine but when I attempted to adjust it to 1800*1600 everything went bonkers and I can't see anything now even when I reload the game! I've uninstalled and reinstalled and still it's not fixed. Does anyone know how I can change the resolution settings on HL2 out of game so that I can play again?

My steam doesn't seem to be working properly, is there anyway to do it outside of steam?

Click Start -> click run -> type "regedit" with no quotes and press enter. Navigate to the following location in the registry.

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-117609710-2052111302-682003330-1003\Software\Valve\Source\hl2\Settings

At that location you will see several entries in the window on the right-hand side. One will say ScreenWidth and one will say ScreenHeight. Right click on the one called ScreenWidth and click "Modify". Enter 400 in the text box (this is in hexidecimal). Click the OK button. Do the same thing with ScreenHeight except enter 300 in the text box (also a hexidecimal number). Then close Regedit.

When you first open the settings key it should show the resolution you changed it too in the ScreenWidth and ScreenHeight. The numbers in parenthesies are the decimal equivilant of the hexidecimal number (1024 for screenwidth 768 for screenheight for example). If those numbers do not equate to the resolution you accidently set, search through the other settings folders in the "Source" folder until you find them.

Disclaimer: It is very important that you only modify those entries and do not mess with anything else in the registry. Screwing up in the registry can have VERY serious consequenses. If you mess up, don't blame me.
