HELP! I really need help regisetring Half life 2.

I just installed my Half life 2 on my PC, after that; I started registering the game using my Steam account. Unfortunately, my full hopes of enjoying the game hindered when a message window saying that my half life isn't installed yet, Insert CD and install Half Life 2 before I register.

Clearly I already installed the game. I reinstalled the game and still, that same message window comes popping up.

To anyone who has encountered this problem or someone who has solved this Steam registry horseshit , please I really need your help.

Open Steam and in the bottom left corner there should be a button saying "ADD A GAME". Click this and then select "Activate a product on Steam" and then follow the instructions and enter your CD key.
