I just recently noticed that my firewall (sygate) is constantly blocking incoming access to what appears to be random ports. It's really spiking allot, and is ussing up allot of my bandwith apparently (according to sygate).

Anyway, I wanna know how I can put a stop to this. You guys think somebody is trying to hack me, and if I just shut off my pc and leave for awhile they'll give up, or do you think it's something else?

On a side note, today I kinda actually USED irc for the first time, and I forgot to block my ip. I only noticed the incoming spikes today also, so i'm thinking some irc fag got my ip and is now trying to get me.

Please help! I'm scared to shut off my firewall so I can play games :(

You shouldn't have to turn off your firewall to play games... That kinda defeats the purpose, don't ya think?

i dunno about u but, on my sygate i don't have to turn it off .. i just allow the games thru on the filter ...

Yeah, the port the game uses should be available on the game's support site... or you should at least be able to find it on google. There might even be instructions. If not, all you have to do is add a rule that allows that TCP port outgoing, and you should be set.

The first time you run the game, it will flag up that somethign is trying to gain external access, you allow it the access, and carry on as normal. I stopped using sygate because it didn't seem to allow me to set any options to do with my wlan and it was blocking other pc's on the wlan gaining access to my shared folders.

Yes yes yes, I know all about firewalls and junk like that :P.

But yeah, i'm pretty sure some asshat just nabbed my IP when I was on IRC and was tacking a whack at it, cause today (gone for a day or two) I turned my PC on and Sygate is reporting nothing as I type this.

But about the port openings, I opened ports for HL2 games since their's so little, but BF2 uses a ton of ports. I know I could just single out the ports I would need and then set them to only open at BF2's opening, but i'm very very lazy.

After that short attack stint though, i'm going to move my lazy ass (or cursor) and do it.
