help in episode 2

I have played HL2 and Episode 1 without any problem - but now I began playing Episode 2.

I have just beaten the part where I'm outdoors and kill the two Guardians (this is after I extracted the larvae). I walk over to the vortigaunt and Alex, and he says "Follow Freeman". Except neither of them follow, and they stop moving. I've gone as far back in the game as where I have to run past the Guardian underground, and still when I get to the point outdoors when I need the vortigaunt to follow me and open a gate, he freezes. Any suggestions?

I disabled and re-enabled the AI, still with no effect. Any other suggestions?

You might have to reload from an earlier save, or restart the level entirely.

I am in fact using a legal copy of the game.

And I've gone as far back as before I got the larvae...do you think going any farther back would help?

You should not have to, but it may be worth a try since you are having this issue.

Have you tried continueing the level normally? Maybe it'll glitch back into place when you get to the elevator.

You should just have to reload the level.
