HELP. Install woes

I know of many people having this issue, but none are able to provide me with any help. I get the "Could not read file from steam folder, please verify that the file exsists and that you can access it." during the installation of HL2. It usually happens on the 3rd disc. I'd really rather not go spend the extra 30 on the CE just to be able to install the damn game. any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You could try copying all the contents of each cd to a folder somewhere on your hard drive and if it asks for an overwright click yes to all then you dont need the cd to install it. What gave me this idea was the exact same thing happend to me with C&C Generals and that fixed it hope i helped .
