Help! Installed game, won't run...

Okay, I just bought HL2 with CS:S...installed/updated. Then I went to play Counter-Strike. It went through the usual routine but right before the full load screen comes up, it gives me an error message for hl2.exe..."Application Must Close" or something. Anybody know what to do. This is my 2nd install and it's really frustrating. Thanks

Make sure your connected to steam when you install or play.

re-install, maybe something corrupted during instalation

Thanks for the help guys... I figured it out about 20 minutes after I posted though. Had to update my direct-x...then my vid card...it's amazing how much difference a new driver can make for video.
