Delete all partitions and do a format, then install everything without connecting your comp to the net.

1. If you can, burn your McAfee/Norton definations and zonealarm to a CD.
2. Format. DO NOT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET.
3. Install McAfee/Norton. Copy definitions form CD.
4. Install Zonealarm.
5. Connect to the internet.
6. RUN WINDOWS UPDATE IMEDIATLY.
7. You can now remove zonealarm if you wish.
8. Get firefox :)

That should get you a clean windows install, a bit long winded but it works.

get norton 2005,

then connect to the internet, you will be fine :)

stop telling him to format, thats the newbies way out for people who dont know how to troubleshoot.

stop those exes in process manager(sysini, systemm issetup) , and run msconfig see if they are in there, and uncheck them. infact uncheck everything in the startup tab, and also uncheck all non-MS services in the services tab. then reboot and see if you can get on the internet.

+ if you want immediate protection after a format, just turn on windows firewall, the sp1 is not very flexible but it still works. the sp2 one is much better though.

I think you'll find a modern virus is a lot more robust than that, they add services, processes, startup entries, hook into IE, hell some even make their own driver!

sorry but i dont need to be educated about them, if he can get on the internet, then he can get updates and a virus scan. thats all that is important right now is being able to get the necessary files online so he can get rid of it for good.

people after 8 hours of stressing, i finnaly managed to fix it

thx y'all

unless you got a key stealer virus for example
