help me with the name of this NES game!

I'm looking for a rom of an awsome NES game i used to have. It was a side scrolling space shooter, and I remember that the ground looked like it was living. You could get power ups to get like a shield around you.
It was a futuristic space shooter.

Touching the ground would hurt you.

Kinda like a pre cursor to R Type for the SNES...i really want this rom because i used to have it!! please help

Gradius 3? In my opinion the Gradius series was superior to R-Type in just about every way.

It has to be R-Type (there was a nes version right?) - that was the first side scrolling shooter to have organic looking backgrounds (i think )

super mario? if u got a cape you could fire firballs, and if you got a mushroom you got bigger with a sheild. plus on the gameboy version you went on the moon.

there was a game i played on my mates NES that sounded VERY simillar, i was like 5 and he was about 16, he babysat me and i loved it when he brought round his NES

was it 2 player? coz this game was a side scrolling shooter that was 1 or 2 player, and you shot... things... and you have sheilds. i was crap so we never got very far
