ok, I've tried everything I can think of or have found anywhere in the past week or so, but I can't play the game at all.
The menus don't load when I start the game, but I can still hear the buttons. From the sound alone, I can figure out where buttons are and start the game from there. The G-Man video plays and then it hits the fan. The game usually stops right after that video. The longest it's lasted is about 30 seconds after I got off the train. I've disabled sound acceleration, deleted media codecs, everything to try to fix the sound-skipping bug (I think that might be resolved).
I think the problem is with the video?
I have a GeForce 4 4200 Go (mobile), 512 ram, 2.66Ghz processor (dell inspiron 8500 laptop)
I'm using directx 9.0c, latest bios, latest video card bios and drivers, latest windows updates (xp sp2), everything!
Not trashing valve or anything, I JUST WANT TO PLAY HL2!!! it looks awesome
Any help would be totally awesome. Steam support hasn't replied yet either (3 days ago?)
