Hi, I got into upgrading/opening my case up and such because of HL2. I've learned tons.

I upgraded my old Geforce 3 to a Radeon 9800 Pro not too long ago, very pleased with the results.

The thing is, I want to now upgrade my RAM/Processor, and I've found out I have an "exception" setup.

I have an Intel D850GB Motherboard.

This setup is built for RDRAM, of which I have 512MB (x2 256) with 400MHz Frequency each. -- Samsung PC800

My processor is an Intel Pentium 4 Willamette core (2 GHZ), but it runs on slot 423

I've been hard pressed to find ANY processor upgrades, everything I find is maximum 2ghz, which I already have. I've found some RD RAM, kind of expensive, but it's better RDRAM so I don't mind.

If anyone could help me find a processor that can run on this mobo, on slot 423, or something that will enable me to upgrade it in any way it'd be great. Thanks for any help in advance.

get a new mobo/cpu/ram setup, u have a dell, and wil l never get anywhere

I don't have a Dell.

It'd probably be just as expensive to get the new mobo, RAM, and processor as it would to get the more expensive RAM and find a good processor.

Now if I can't find a processor at all, that's where your solution comes in :d. But if I can find one- that's my priority first.

IIRC, 423 slot processors only go up to 2Ghz, you'll have to get a new motherboard with a slot 428 (or whatever tickles your fancy) if you want a processor upgrade. I remember having a similar problem, a 423 slot processor and RDRAM-only motherboard, and I remember reading that intel stopped making newer 423s in favour of their new 428 slot. So I got a new computer. :D

Hmm. Would it be able to go above 2.8?

i just upgraded 6 months ago and had rdram and the same mobo as you did i only spent like 150 bucks or so on my upgrade all together. I just broke down my comp into parts and ebayed my processor and my rdram(which went for a nice amount) and bought myself a p4p800 deluxe mobo that is a socket 478 ,a gig of ddr,and a new processor. Hope that helps gives you some help as to what to do.

shadow upgrade your ram 1GB to at least PC2700. your processor is fine. i have a 2600 also.

Found some major steals on newegg. Decided to just get a new mobo, RAM, and processor. Then I'll ebay off the old junk like someone said. Should make out pretty well :D
