Help! My water broke... no, really!

I've been building a level for a few days now and when I loaded it up to test a few things i noticed that the water that I had put in the map the other day was not there. However, when I (my player) jumped down to the area that should contain the water, there was a splash sound! If i shoot at the ground it makes the normal 'splash effect' as though the water is there.. but is no water being displayed. (it's not deep enough to swim in - so I don't know if that works).

I remade the water but that didn't bring it back - the new water has exactly the same problem.

Any suggestions/assistance is appreciated.

That's looking cool bling - I hope the water problem doesn't hold you up too much.

Here's something weird =- I just loaded up a previous build of the map and the water works just fine (still) in that version.. yet, nothing I have tried can make it work in the new build.

thanks: D

Im having the same problem.

Ive made water many many times in source, but now, it doesnt like me for some reason.

Its not intersecting with any of the other brushes. Maybe its a new bug in hammer : /

that top pic looks real, you should work for valve, with mapping skillz like that!

lol, dude it is real :p

Well I have the same problem, I made a map yesterday (my first one). I followed some guys tutorial of making a simple map and it worked well but then I wanted to add water on the floor and made a cube for the water where I wanted it and then I chose a water texture and all. It was water ingame but the surface was all white but it was water :( it seems to be the same problem at you guys had :S I hope someone can help us

Are you running Vis when you compile your map?
Are the other sides textured with nodraw?

Hey JimmehH, thanks for the reply.

The water is textured correctly (nodraw on all sides except the top) and VIS is enabled.

Well, I've fixed the problem... in the log (when it compiled) there was a leak reported:
**** leaked ****
Entity prop_static (-719.79 -2087.29 -47.00) leaked!
So I went to those coordinates and a prop that I'd been moving around earlier was outside my sealed area.

I deleted it and then compiled the map again - it took ages this time, which I took as a good sign. Once complete it loaded up fine, all the water was back as it should be....

Now I just have to shake the feeling that there are lot of more experienced Hammer users out there laughing at my extreme noobness.

Thanks for your replies and help guys, I hope my solution helps some of you with your problem too.

how about rad, when compiling i change all the options to "normal". and it worked.. :D

GOD DAMN IT

my tree

>_<

Ok - I spoke too soon... the water is gone again and this time there are no leaks anywhere

I had the same problem with my test map, the water would look into the void and it was horrible. I never fixed it. There were no leaks, and now it's erking me again that I could never figure out how to get it to work. Tomorrow i'll open hammer again and see if i still have the same error, with absolutely no leaks, all the proper requirements filled, rad and vis on, no no objects sticking into the water, no clipping issues with the water, nothing.

Because when I tested it several [dozen, literally] times, it would never work no matter what i did, and there was no reason it shouldn't work. Yet when i made a new map, it would work fine in just a simple test room. Bah.

Well, it's working again now.. if I compile the map with the VIS set to 'fast'.. but if I compile it on 'normal' it goes all screwy.

Meh, I'm so new to this that there's so much I don't understand that this sort of thing doesn't surprise me.. Hell, I don't even know what VIS stands for!!
