Help needed (STUMPED)

Hello all just started playing halflife 2 and loving it and iam at a point where i cant go anywhere.I think iam halfway through it and need help getting pass thoughs big water gates.I have been beating my head against the wall,the wheel is broken to open the flood gates and i cant find a way to open them.I just started going on the river on my sweet boat and hit a road block,can someone help please.

At the broken wheel, look to your right. There should be barrels that blow up. Blow them up.

You need to hold the USE key to open that gate, if you are where I think you are.
