Hey

Look, I'm in need of serious help in Half-Life 2 Episode One

Like in Direct Intervention I get to the corridor after those high-tech door things open, right? Just before the control room you know.

There is a shiny white thing on the floor and walls, like a room separation or whatever. Anyway, when I cross it my whole screen goes black and I can't do anything. Once I managed to kill everyone without seeing them but it just stays black. What the heck's the matter with the game? is it a bug or something?!

Help me because I'd really like to play the game :S

Ok like Fraps went wacko on me so I can't do screenshots or movies but here's the thing in simple words... When you start a new game on the second chapter, Direct Intervention, you start in a room with Alex and they give you the grav. gun already overloaded. The door right in front of you opens and there's a hall and at the end there's the control room you have to get to. I can't get across the corridor because after I cross the first blue stripe on the floor my screen goes black... Help me now? :S

P.S: Yeah, discussing where I should have posted this really helped me, thanks a lot you guys :p

screenshots to clarify giberish please.

*edit* How the hell is this urgent? Damn summer holidays >:|

*edit2* DAMN SMILIES!!!!

this is half life 2 only.. post this on half life 2 ep1 forum

I have the same problem as you. The screen goes black and that's that. I've acutally managed to walk foward until Alex puts me in an elevator then some noise happins and presumably i arrive at my destination but everything is Black, Black, BLACK! I've saved and reloaded which hasn't helped. I'm using an ATI All in Wonder series video card.

I'm not sure why everyone on this forum is such jackasses, but if i find the solution i'll let you know. or visa versa

Well i can see why he's said that, some of the posts in this thread are pretty nasty and unhelpful, probably because it started life in HL2 General discussion.

The bug seems to sound as if part of the level hasn't loaded up, or something along those lines. It could be because when you downloaded/installed the game that map corrupted and you didn't get it all. Try right clicking Episode 1 in your 'my games' list and going to properties. Then click 'verify integrity of game cache' button, and retry the game.

If this doesn't solve your problem it could be indeed graphical problems, as i've seen some tearing and problems from a video of this glitch before. In such a case i'd advise making sure you have the latest graphical drivers for your graphics card are installed, or rolling back your drivers to an older version (if the new ones are causing the problem). Good luck davisise, the community isn't really that bad i assure you. :)

Part of the problem is people's horrid ability to explain problems they are having, and complete ineptitude at doing the easiest most obvious things towards making it a correctable thing.
Update your drivers and check your file integrity before posting here.

Take initiative and search the web for faults or service bulletins on your hardware. Read up.
Post your system specs. Be specific. Don't expect people to auto-magically know what in the hell you are talking about.
Simple things like this make the troublshooting process so much easier.

I'm not saying this post (up top) is particularly bad, but this guy does not realize he can take screenshots without Fraps...? Granted it wouldn't help in this situation, that's an indicator of his level of knowledge of the game. :S

"how do i shot screens?"
"i dunno. lol"

My expert opinion, find a database of FAQs for your video card and seeing as how neither of the two people that have posted here about this problem stated WHICH VERSION CARD THEY HAVE (old Radeons have all sorts of issues).
If your card is old, chuck it. If it's a good reliable card, alter (lower) your graphical settings and experiment to see if anything changes. Next step, uninstall/reinstall HL2. If at that point you have the same problem it's a hardare issue and you will need to get back to us with MORE DETAILS OF YOUR HARDWARE so that we can be of some use instead of relying on halfwitted remarks to entertain ourselves.
