help needed with HUD for beginner

can anyone give me some direction as how to go about creating an original HUD. Bearing in mind i am a complete beginner to modding dumbing things down a few times would be much appreciated!! step by step instructions wud be wicked, if any1 feels generous!

any links to tutorials would also be a HUGE help, as i can't find any on the net.

Got any coding knowledge? Because that's a good start.

For a simpler approach, edit the .res files in your mod - one of them has the colour schemes defined.

Anyways, what are you trying to achieve? I might be able to guide you through some of it.

i want to add certain images to the interface, perhaps that are semi-transparent, so to change the health and ammo interface.

ive had a lil fiddle with text, but want to alter it further.

any help wud be hugely appreciated!
