Hi, I am kind of an idiot but I have some money and want to upgrade my comp for HL2.

Right now I've got a P4 1.7 GHz w/ 512 megs of pc800 rdram on an Intel 82801BA motherboard (i think). I want to buy a new processor (P4 2.8, my current motherboard only supports up to 2.4) and motherboard but will I have to buy new ram too?

Please help me!

As far as I know, nearly all new mobos are just DDR memory... But I'm not sure.

What I would do if I was you is not upgrade though... Get a really good CPU fan and overclock the shit off it!
I have no idea how it overclocks, or if it even can overclock, but its cheaper, so you can get a 9800 Pro instead :)

lol. thx for the input so fast. I already gots me a 9800 pro (w00t), and I'm too scared to overclock. I think I'm just gonna cave and get new RAM (unless someone else has input for me soon). Soon I will be broke!!

Another question...

I want that P42.8 and I'm willing to spend some extra cash on RAM, but what processor should I get?!? This is all so confusing :p

Get the 2.4C (with the 800mhz FSB)

It's cheap, and overclocks easily. With the extra money, buy your self soemthing nice. Like a mobo and some pc3200 RAM.

Aint gonna OC easy with PC3200...

The whole point of OCing the 2.4c is to OC the memory, get better bndwith and surpass 3.2 performance at like 2.8ghz.
