Everytime I start HL2 or CSS, my config.cfg gets overwritten. Default controls are setup with launch of game. I re-configure all the controls, then exit the game, thinking the new config.cfg file will be saved. Well it is saved, but there is nothing in the config.cfg, it is 0 bytes. I've tried deleting it, restarting, configuring, customizing config.cfg...everything...but everytime is is re-written with 0 bytes. Pain in my arse...

Advance thanks for the help.

I am no expert, but how about setting the file to read only. That should stop any changes being made, I think. Might be wrong of course.

yup, that did it alright. Read-Only....

Now can anybody post a copy or email me their default config.cfg files for HL2 and CSS. Seems I no longer have these and can't get them back. Need to copy and paste, then set the file to read-only.

Thanx

If you wish to get a default config back.

1) Backup

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\username\half-life 2\hl2\SAVE

2) Delete this folder.

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\benosp\half-life 2\

3) Let it create another and you will have default configs again.

You should put custom config info in autoexec.cfg. The HL2 config file is auto generated and will overwrite your cusom config info when it updates (i.e. menu based config changes). The autoexec.cfg will remain untouched.
