it might not always connect at maximum capacity, when i had 56k it usually was around 42kbps

its always 20 something.....Im about to buy WoW or GW so I wanna make sure its gonna work right its ALWAYS 26-28....... ARGH

With 56K, ISDN and DSL it's all about how far you are from the place you have service through. Line quality also impacts 56K though.

no matter what I do it always stays 26,4kByte/s I changed the accses numbers....SHIT
is it my Modem? its a Sound Blaster v.96 USB Modem it was 50$

How do you check your internet speed? I've always wanted to know that.

Lemon, as Asus said, the likely things impacting it is nothing you really have much control over.

It's going to be the quality of your telephone line, I reckon. Have you tried using a telephone on the same line you connect on? Is there any noticable interference? Try calling someone from it and listen for any interference... it could be this that is affecting the connection speed.

The other thing that can affect it is how many telephone devices you have connected to a single telephone line. For example, if you have a fax machine, modem, and two telephones, this could decrease the quality of the whole line when trying to connect to the internet. Try going around removing everything but your modem from the telephone socket.

Over here in the UK we can call our telephone provider and get something called the GAIN increased. I don't know if this can be done over where you are. But calling your telephoe provider would be a good idea anyway. At the end of the day that modem should be connecting at 40kbps to 56kbps and if it isn't then they need to sort it out.

ai ai thx Im gonna fiddle around with the cable and then if it still doesnt work Im gonna call Verizon

Yeah, try a new cable and avoid extension cables if possible.

well I put in this other phone thingy and it went from 26 to 28 there are 2 Telephones
in this house I had put it back in that small box because it would have blocked the phone-line.....so its the Verizons fault

How about this, just get dsl......
Not that bright I c...
DSL ISN'T EVERYWHERE.

I have a 56k but I always get at least 5.2kb\s+ on my dl speeds and connect at 48Kbps

Well I just talked with my Grandmother she said that she often gets interference when shes on thje phone so the phoneline is fugged shes gonna call later at Verizon

I dont know why you're complaining about your 56k. You may be able to get cable or something from some random company.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I already talked to every company
around I cant get Cable until December and DSL they dont have here either

well guess u will jsut have to wait it out at least u will finally get cable soon

depending on what dial up server you're connecting to that might be the maximum you can obtain, i used to get 42 kbps or 44 kbps maximum.

Id rather wait for Cable to come since iSDN isnt that much faster

When I used my AOL dial up years ago I never went over 36k, and that pissed me off. Definatley get cable asap. Life has been much better since I have been getting 800kbs+ download speeds. It can sometimes be steady at 2 megs on empty servers woot. But yeah, you probably wont get much faster than 30 somthing kbs on a 56k line.
