Help! Steam wants to re-install Half-Life2! It's allready installed.

Greetings all,

I fired up steam to update the SDK and it acts as though none of the apps including HL2 are installed.
After clicking the HL2 option in the My Games menu, it informed me that 800 Mb would be installed.

I purchased and installed the collector's edition the day it was released and it's been won a couple times and re-played off and on ever since.

This happened once before, and someone told me how to delete some files somewhere in the Valve folder, but I forgot how it's done now.

thanks for the help :)

I had the same problem a few minutes ago. All the games were greyed out - using 'HL1: Source' as a guinea pig I went to "install game", and when it told me there'd be a trillion Mb download I just clicked 'Next'. It then instantly recognised the game and said "Installed!" without downloading a thing, so I 'Finish'ed.

I repeated for all the supposedly not-installed games. Hope it's as simple as this for you.

Edit - if have Codename Gordon installed (but greyed out) then that would be a safer test subject for "Install Game" than any of the others.

Ah, the beauty that is Steam. How I long to bathe in your vaporous outpourings! But yes, mine did that too once. Just clicked next and it found the files on my computer and loaded right up. Wierd, though.

Heh, I fired steam up again to try it, but this time it worked like it should.
Thanks :)
