Help Stuck In Chapter 4

Hi, I just got the game and im stuck at chapter 4 where you must open the gate (the 2nd gate not the 1st) where i must go into the enemies control room and once i got to the valve (wheel) it was broken and wouldnt turn to let me open the gate... Ive tried replaying the lvl but i couldnt go further.. Pls help Ive been to the "Walkthrough chap 4" of the website but it showed an error....

I presume that's the original HL2, not Episode One, and it's water hazard. If so, when you're in front of that valve, look to your right. There's an explosive barrel not far from there - blow it up.
