HELP! STUCK IN ROUTE CANAL,ROOM WHERE 'MACHINES START & STOP AUTOMATICALLY'

Help! I'm stuck in a section near the start of hl2. I'm in the route canal in a section where I hit a metal grille with the crowbar and fell into this section. I killed the manhacks that were there but now I can't move on from here.The area has a lot of drums, water around and ladders and I cannot get out. there is a vent at the top but I can't get into it. Below the grille there is a round red tunnel leading into the next section but I can't jump into it from the water. As I walk into the next section with a lot of pipes the area is sealed off with bars. Help please someone !!!!!!

You could always load to an earlier time or press New Game and choose the ''Route Canal'' chapter.

Is this stacking to help get into that vernt in the top? Its pretty high up? Do I stack one by one from the ground or on the pipes?

no you want to get to the platform by the doorway w/ the red light glow

I think that's the bit where you find a pipe with a handle you can turn and it raises the water level. Look for a little room with lots of pipes and for a circular handle maybe 10 foot above water level.

I had a go at stacking the barrels but that didn't work. I'll have a go at looking for this handle. Once the water level raises I can imagine it will get high enough to go through that red tunnel. I'll have a look for it, thanks

I wish I had known about the valve earlier. I stacked the barrels (what a pain) and went through the red pipe to no avail.
