I keep losing in tank vs tank combat. It takes me about 3/4 hits to destroy a tank but usually I’m dead after 2/3. I understand that the front of the tank is the strongest and the back is the weakest but is there more detail I’m not aware of?

For example, the side of the tank, does it have equal armour strength from back to front or is it the same all over. Also, is the armour weaker/stronger down near the tracks or up near the top? But mainly, is the turret weaker than the main body of the tank?

Disclaimer: This information pertains to BF1942, and as such may not be applicable to BF2...

Damage to tanks is based not only on hit location, but the angle at which it hits. Direct hits (those that hit the tank at an angle equal to, or very close to, that surface's "normal" vector) will cause as much damage as possible, while hits that occur on an angle will cause less damage.

As for hit location: The front of the tank has the most armor. The sides usually have less, and the back of the tank has even less than that. The bottom of the tank has even less armor than the back, if I recall correctly. And the turret has about the same armor as the sides or back.

Hopefully this is all correct. But remember, this may only apply to BF1942.

One on one, front to front, you should be aiming for the tracks of the tank- 2 hits shold do the job.
If you can hit it in the back, by all means do so- far weaker than the front.
If you get hit first, deploy your smoke and back up, try and get a few pot shots through the smoke, but your opponent will probably do the same, so when you back up, turn aswell, so there's less chance of him guessing your position behind the smoke.
As long as you get the first shot in, and aim for his tracks, you should come out on top- you cant afford to miss either, and you have to take your shot as soon as the shell has loaded.
Good luck.

I honestly think the US tanks take more shots then the MEC/China counterparts. I find it taking 4-5 shots to kill a USMC while it takes them 2-4. O_o

But yeah, follow J's advice.

That's why I prefer to sneak up to the tank and stick 2 C4's to it, so that I'm sure it will go down once I detonate. It just takes too many shots with the AT tube and I can either get mowed down once the tank finds out where I shot from, or just killed by someone else while changing shoting positions.

And that's why I'll probably unlock the G36C instead of the DAO-12, which I found out, is too innacurate, annoyingly throws the weapon upwards, so I have to manually lower it (unlike other guns which will automatically lower themselves after I end shooting) and the reloading time is too long. As for shotguns, the USMC pump-action ftw!

I love the Saiga 12K MEC shotgun.....although they got the ammo cap wrong. Its got 5 round and 8 round mags, not 7.
