I am looking for help to begin planning a total conversion mod for Half Life 2 based on the book Ender's Game by Orsan Scott Card.

This mod would be based in multiplayer. Battles would take place in zero-gravity settings, in a variety of circumstances.

This projects would most likely need a knowledgeable, experienced coder, who would be able to code things such as zero gravity, "freeze" effects on players (location based, meaning a players legs and arms and torso all can be frozen independantly of each other)
Also, this project needs one or two 2d artists for textures and skins, as well as 2 - 4 modellers for players and weapons.

I will be posting a full write-up about this project, as well as ideas, plans, and pieces of relevent text from the book Ender's Game for those who haven't read it.

Anyone who is interested in more, please email me at [email protected]

Um, hello? Copyright?

What is this with the copyright thing...i'll change the name if i need to, i didn't post this idea up here in order to get verbally bashed over copyright issues...i posted it so i could get feedback on my idea for a mod which i want to make happen. I will be posting a full write-up about my plans hopefully within the next day or two.

Plan for Ender's Game Mod

So, I finished the write up last night, and this post is going to contain it. As for the copyright issues, I've sent a letter to the publisher of Ender's Game, and am waiting for a reply.

Location:
-Zero Gravity
-Length equal to Football Field Length (300 feet/ 100 yards)
-Width and Height equal to Football Field Width (150 feet / 50 yards)
-Two doors in room
-One on each end of the room, in the center of the wall
-Eight "helmet pads", one in each corner
-"Stars":
-Floating cubes which cannot be moved by players
-Can be rearranged by server administrator to create different situations, or to give advantages/disadvangtages to certian teams
-Stars have hand holds on each side to hold onto or to change direction with
-Walls:
-"digital" walls:
-Color/pattern can be changed by server administrator to simulate day/night/dawn/dusk/deep space/ or closeness to a planet

Players:
-Outfits include helmets, elbow and knee pads, gloves and boots, as well as a single piece jump suit colored differently for each team.
-When players are active, lights on suit (shoulders, helmet, waist)
-Holster for weapon on side, back, or chest.
-40 players per team (if coding is possible, if not 20 players per team).
-One leader on each team to give orders.
-Leader can be chosen by voting among teammates (players automatically nominated based on team rank)
-Leader can be chosen by the server administrator
-If neither is available, player with most points becomes leader
-Leader able to fire and damage teammates (can be used as a strategy)...or Friendly Fire can be turned on for all players.

Weapon:
-One weapon, "freeze pistol"
-Fire a beam of light that must be held on target for x number of seconds in order to be effective.
-Location based damage. Ex. If a player is hit in the arms or legs, only the specific limb is frozen.
-Iron Sights for accurate aiming
-No ammo or reloads, unlimited shots.

Gameplay:
-Two armies of 40 each (or 20 if 40 isn't possible)
-Each team starts when the gate on either side of the room open, allowing them into the room
-Stars can be used for cover or tactics.
-Teams fight to immobilize or eliminate the entire opposing team, while still having at least 5 soldiers left.
-After the opposing team is immobilized or eliminated, 4 of the remaining soldiers have to activate the "helmet pads" on the opposing side (one in each of the corners surrounding the gate), the 5th player has to go through the gate to end the round.

Scoring:

points would be given to the entire team. Ex:
0 points for a loss
1 point for eliminating or immobilizing the opposing team, but not having at least 5 players left
2 points for eliminating or immobilizing the opposing team with 5 players left, and exiting through the gate.
3 points given for eliminating or immobilizing the opposing team with more than x number of players (8 or 10)

individual points would be given. Ex:
1 for immobilizing an opponent
2 for eliminating an opponent

players would lose points for being immobilized or eliminated.

Needed:
1 Coder (experienced please)
2+ Modeller (for players and weapon)
2+ Artists (for 2d textures and skins)

Let me know what you think, or if anyone would be willing to help. Also any changes to this plan or new ideas would be helpful.

actually the copyright wouldn't be a problem because the author is very hospitable and un-concerned about money....
but this is a great book, im working on reading Speaker for the Dead, which i need to pick up and read soon...yarr
