Well, I am building the following system:

Proc: Intel P4 640 3.2.GHz 2MB L2 Cache
MoBo: Asus 925XE w/DDr2 slots
Memory:Corsair (ValueRam) 1Gb DDR2 SDRAM (2x1GB) 240 PIN 667 (PC5300)
Graphic Card:ATI X800XL 256MB
XP Professional

I may use my old 200GB 7200 western digital hard drive. Will this old IDE hard drive work with this MoBo? or will the drive be a choke point? Do I need to fork out more $ for a Raptor 10,000 RP? ;(

1 more thing, can you suggest a good power supply (maybe case combo) for this board? :)

Should be fine and an Antec, Fortron or Thermaltake Powersupply. Those 3 are good and Antec has some pretty good Case/Powersupply combos.

Thanks I'll look at the Antec (I see their cases are popular).

Hiya redrover. Yeah, that hard drive should be fine. I'm not sure how much of a slown down it might be, but it is definitely compatible. I kept my old hd when I built this system. There may only be one IDE channel, however, in which case you need to get creative when mounting your drives. You will only be able to have one optical drive, if this is the case, and you will have to put your hd right next to it. That is what I have done for right now. Raptors are small, but they're good if you don't need much storage. Anything SATA would be good if you decide to upgrade.

Thanks for info

I think I'll get the Ati Silencer and keep my IDE Hard drive for now. My son wants me to slow down on buying too much right now, so I'll Get the case and power supply and build the P4 640 which should arrive from newegg soon.
My son is learning 3D studio max so he can someday work on 3D games. He has already made several maps (One with a train which comes through the map every few minutes and runs over any players on the tracks. Players can also jump on to the train and shoot from it) :sniper:

That sounds pretty cool about your son's creative ability! I wish i was creative with stuff like that.

You can Model and map too

He just visits alot of Forums like this and plays around with the extras and tools you can get from any halflife2 or counter-strike site. H erecennlty got 3D studio max, as you may know it and Maya are used to make most of the 3D objects in the FPS games.

Thanks for directing me to great products

Thanks for all your advice in Hardware Forum. You told me to check out Antec power supplies and cases. I am ordering the Antec Neopower ATX 480W and the Antec Solution SLK 3000-B Mid tower. By buying this great case (has P4 cooling vent and 12mm fans for $47) and purchasing the power supply seperate, thus getting a better one, my machine should be reliable. Thanks for your help.
