i have a 9500 with hacked software to turn it into a 9700 as well as 1.7 gig processor and 512 ram

im not trying to brag or anything

but even with those specs my half life is not running at it's full potential

the frame rates usually hover around 60 fps (i already did fps_max 100)

can someone help me max out the frames? (without lowering my current opengl resolution settings 1024x768)

any help would be greatly appreciated.

and half life seems to be unstable.. (usually crashes when trying to connect to a server)

Can't brag with those specs anyway.:dozey:

Well it might just be the softmod, it might be unstable. Put it back to 9500 status and try it again.

jeez, dont be such an asshole, not that bad, what you got a 3.2?

i bet yours isnt 600 mghz faster, but then again i could be worng, but i doubt it.

Av2k, did you try and set it back to 9500 status yet?

yeah i did but the frame rates dropped even more

but i got it to hover around 99-100 frames now by setting it 16 bit color

thanks alot.

Take your vertical sync off, your fps is staying with your monitors refresh rate. I cant beleive no one has said this yet!

If you're just playing the game, it's pointless to push HL (or any other fps) above 60fps (or the rate of your monitor's refresh). If you go beyond your monitor's refresh rate, you may get stuttering frames, as a result of shearing (essentially, multiple frames are being "refreshed" by the monitor at the same time). To avoid the shearing or stuttering, simply go to your Video card control panel and turn V-Sync (vertical synchronization) ON.

wow, thanks guys.

im going to try both methods and see what's better

thanks0rs

hmm.. yes.

turning on v-sync is way better.. (turning off makes it all glitchy and what not)

but the problem is..

how come it doesnt go up to 100 frames? (natural selection)

is it my motherboard, processor, or video card?

how can i run half life 2 when i cant even max out half life 1? :(

its not about maxing out the engine. it doesent matter. with vsync on your FPS is limited by your monitors refresh rate. With it off, you will most likley see a lot of tearing and it will be like lagging. There is another explanation. Windows 2k/xp limits FPS in OpenGL mode to 60, there is a refresh rate fix, but it will then only bring your FPS up to whatever your monitors max refresh rate is.
